“Many people are overwhelmed by storing and caring for their stuff. We believe that streamlining your possessions and consuming less, has a positive impact on your home life and the environment.”

— Maggie Williams, Professional Organizer

The Tidy Magpie Story

I was inspired by Bea Johnson's quest to reduce her impact on the planet by living with fewer objects in her home. The professional organizer, Marie Kondo's concepts of tidying up every day, tidying by category and focusing on what sparks joy, was motivation to begin my process.  Also, I read about people choosing a minimalist lifestyle, such as Joshua Becker, and began to integrate some of their concepts into my life.  In an increasingly complicated world, I thought that these lifestyle changes fit together quite well as a home organizing business.

The more I researched these subjects and talked with friends and family, the more convinced I became.  It turns out, many of us are overwhelmed by storing and taking care of their stuff!  We are so inundated with things - gifts, Amazon Prime shipments, papers and artwork from school, family mementos.  Singing plastic toys have taken over the “family” living room (shall we call it the “children’s room”?).  Desks are littered with paper in this “paperless” era we live in.  Bathrooms are overflowing with “free” samples making one wonder, what are these “free” gifts actually providing?

In 2019, I had an opportunity to create a business around organizing homes and helping people simplify their lives. Parents need help sorting through all the stuff.  Downsizing couples need help figuring out where to begin.  Kids are desperate for adults to show them the path through the toys!  My concept of "Reduce, Reuse and Refine", touches all of these scenarios.  The hardest part for most, is reducing (and refusing the amount of stuff entering the home); problem solving occurs during the reuse phase where we rearrange furniture and decor items; and creativity blossoms when we finally refine the space to be functional and beautiful at once.

Originally from Long Beach, California, I have lived in Seattle for over 15 years. When I’m not organizing I love being on the water with friends and family. I am proud to be locally owned and operated and my commitment to quality and service is unmatched.
